БЯЛО И ЧЕРВЕНО ПОД НЕБЕТО СИНЬО... / WHITE AND RED UNDER THE BLUE SKY...

Отново се закичихме с мартенички! Отново посрещнахме баба Марта с нетърпение и надежда за хубаво време (пролетта сякаш наистина подрани)! През последните няколко дни се радвахме като деца и сега бабомартенските бижута са неизменна част от нашия тоалет!:D

On 1st of March we pinned to our clothes and tied around our wrists "martenitza"-s - to meet Baba Marta and make her smile!

Ето някои от мартеничките, които направихме вкъщи. Да, настъпва шарена бъркотия, но радостта да подариш ръчноизработена мартеничка, е голяма!

Here're some of the bracelets we made with my husband for friends and relatives.

И тази година влязох в ролята на баба Марта в интерактивен спектакъл с деца. Последваха снимки за спомен, стихчета и песнички... вероятно Дядо Коледа се чувства по подобен начин!:D Усещането е прекрасно!

This year I acted as Baba Marta again and the children took a lot of pics with me after the performance! I felt like Santa Claus in a way!:D It's the only opportunity to put on a traditional Bulgarian costume!:)

This is in Sofia, but everywhere else the streets looked like that!:)

За жалост, небето не е вече така синьо, както в заглавието, но мартеничките ще ни карат да се усмихваме, дори когато завали, нали?

Unfortunately the sky is not blue any more, as the title says, but we will wear martenitzas to keep our spirit high when it rains and snows in the next few days!

БАБА МАРТА СЕ УСМИХНА! / BABA MARTA SMILED!

Усмихна се тя и слънчицето грейна! Ами как иначе - всички са се закичили с мартенички и са в приповдигнато настроение, пък и рано-рано сутринта метнахме на балкона един топъл червен шал - да се вижда отдалече, та баба Марта да не се сърди!:)

Цялата къща е пълна с бели и червени конци, мъниста, ножици, цветни кълбета... Майсторите на мартенички са съпругът и синът ми. Ето какви гривнички ми подариха...

There's a mess of red and white threads, beads, yarn and scissors at home! My husband and son made a lot of martenitzi for relatives and friends. These bracelets are for me...

 

Аз също се вдъхнових и направих украса за дома...

They inspired me and I decided to make some beauties for our home....

 

В събота нашата театрална група проведе работилничка за мартенички както през миналата година. Процесът беше дълъг, но интересен - за малки и големи!

On Saturday, just like last year, our theatre group held a workshop for making martenitzi.  It was interesting and exciting for the children and their patents!

Днес бях за кратко Баба Марта - с очила, бастунче и кошничка с мартенички, посрещната с възторг от децата, които искаха да ме докоснат и да ги погаля! Този път нямам снимки, но ще ви покажа детайли от прекрасната носия, с която бях облечена!...

This morning I played the role of Baba Marta in a performance for the kindergartens! Unfortunately we didn't take photos, but the excitement of the children was huge, they sang songs especially for me and were thrilled and happy to touch me! What a feast we had!
Here are some details of my costume! I hope you'll like them!

Честита Баба Марта! / The Bulgarian tradition of Baba Marta

At the very end of February Bulgarians make or buy for their relatives and friends "martenitsa"-s -   white and red threads, weaved in different  ways. On the first day of March they put the "martenitsa"-s on their clothes or wrists and wish each other health and happiness with the words "Happy Grandma Marta!" (the name derived from the Bulgarian word for "March" - "mart"). Early in the morning women must sweep the house and hang on the balcony  a red cloth, so that Grandma Marta ( in Bulgarian - Baba Marta) smiled and the Sun shined! This is an ancient Bulgarian tradition (existing, perhaps, for more than one thousand years) ,which symbolizes the end of Winter and the coming of Spring... "Martenitsa"-s are supposed to be worn until one sees a stork, returning from the South, or a fruit tree in blossom. Then they have to be tied to the tree or put under a stone. Grandma Marta is famous for her changing moods - that's why the days in March are so diverse - rainy and cold, sunny and warm.

В събота  нашата театрална трупа организира работилничка за изработване на мартеници - традиционни и хартиени.  Бяхме поканили специалист-етнограф от Регионалния  исторически музей. Ужасно съжалявам, че забравихме да вземем фотоапарата, за да ви покажа красотите, които деца и възрастни сътвориха от два цвята прежда, хартия и мъниста!! Имам само тези снимки, но мисля, че атмосферата се усеща......


On Saturday, together with my husband, a fellow actress and an ethnographer  from the  Regional History Museum, we organized a workshop for making martenitsas - for children and... their parents!:) I am so sorry I forgot to take the camera with us!  Now I can't show you the  amazing bracelets everybody made! I have just a few photos from the paper "martenitsas".

Late in the evening my husband made some bracelets for us and his colleagues and friends. Here are some of them. (My son made terrific braceletes, too, for all his friends and the family.)

 

 

Някои от гривничките, които съпругът ми направи за поредна година.

 Така се случи, че тъкмо аз бях за малко Баба Марта вчера!  В една детска градина... Наоблечена с няколко ката дрехи, с бастунче и очила. Децата ми се радваха, някои се страхуваха, прегръщаха ме, докосваха ме, пяха, рецитираха, споделяха вълненията си... Чувствах се като Дядо Коледа... Прекрасно!:)))

"Бабо Марто, може ли да те целуна? Ей така, от обич!"

 Who's this?...  Baba Marta, of course! O.K., yes, but WHO is she??... Well, me! :-) Yesterday I had the rare chance to be Baba Marta in a performance for a kindregarden! They  dressed me in a traditional Bulgarian costume... (I was all in "layers"!) and I took a cane and put on these false glasses in order to look like a granny...:))))) If you look carefully, you can see examples of Bulgarian embroidery, as well as the threads in white and red in my hands, that I  tied up later around the wrists of the children! It was a very exciting and unforgetable experience!

Да не забравите рано сутринта да изметете дома си и да сложите на балкона някаква червена дреха или плат, че Баба Марта да се усмихне!!

Пък дано пусне слънчицето да ни стопли и съживи, а пролетта да разкраси всичко наоколо. Бяло-сивата гама вече ми омръзна...
